Welcome to the very fist blog I have ever done! I haven't left for Ghana just yet, but I figured I would set up my blog before I leave so I could share the address with everybody. I'm leaving next Thurs. August 7, 2008 at 11:55 p.m. from JFK. I have a 7 hour flight to London-Heathrow followed by a 3 hour layover. Then, I have another 7 hour flight from London to Kotoka Airport in Accra, Ghana (which is the capital city). Luckily, the University of Ghana is a short bus ride from the city and after nearly 17 hours of traveling, I'm sure I will be quite ready for some sleep. With the time change, it will be approximately 9 p.m. on August 8, 2008 until we finally arrive. Currently, I'm in the final stages of preparation for my trip; purchasing some last minute necessities such as a mosquito canopy for around my bed, deet bug repellant, protein bars and vitamins to supplement my diet with, electrical outlet converters (they use the European voltage of 220V - another remnant of British imperialism) etc. and packing. My grandparents were recently at the International Convention for the Gideons and the ate dinner with a gentleman from Ghana who is the chief executive of a private school...my first contact!
My plan is to update my blog every couple days to keep everybody informed of my whereabouts and what I've been up to (hopefully minimizing my mom's fears). I will also be posting pictures on my Facebook profile (and possibly another photo-sharing website), so be sure to check that out often. I am so excited for this trip and every emotion imaginable is growing in intensity daily. Although I trust God to keep me safe, your prayers are gratefully appreciated. Feel free to ask me ANY questions you may have about the college, country, people, food, etc. that I don't mention in the blog. I know that this is going to be an incredible learning experience for me, but I hope that I can inform my friends and family as well about this little West African country that I will be calling home for the next several months.
Thanks for checking it out!
